This year was the first year of The Prospector cross country mountain bike race, and I was stoked to be hired as Videographer for the race by Tourism Central Otago, and race director James Williamson.  The race took part over 3 bluebird Central Otago days.  Matangi Station in the hills behind Alexandra was the location for the first and final day, with the second day being held on Earnscleugh Station.  It was an amazing experience to be part of such an awesome event.  I really loved the faced paced nature of shooting an event and it really pushed me to get the best shot the first take as there are no second chances in a race - the riders aren't mucking around!  I also really enjoyed meeting and working alongside the stills shooter - Simon Williams.  He is such a passionate guy with lots of experience shooting events and this really allows him to get some stunning shots.  All and all it was a great weekend that I was stoked to have the opportunity to be part of.

As part of my Visual Content Creator role for Tourism Central Otago, I have be extremely lucky to get the opportunity to shoot some amazing tourism ventures and landscapes of the area.  One of my favorite recent projects was being part of the content development for the new Lake Dunstan Trail, which is opening very soon.  I worked with filmmaker Ross Mackay as Second Camera and Drone Operator to provide both photo and video which I really enjoyed.  It was great to work with someone with so many years of experience in the action sports field - which I aspire to get into more.  Some of my images from these shoots also made it into the NZ Geographic, and the NZ Life & Leisure magazines - my first magazine shots!

I'm very humbled to have the opportunity for this work and am really enjoying getting into the outdoors to show off these stunning locations that we are lucky to have access to.  Central Otago really is an amazing place and I'm grateful to be able to call it home (in between Uni work in Wellington).

Early on in 2021 a Campaign Idea was sparked by TCO General Manager to create a video series based around the simple yet very effective idea of thanking New Zealander's for visiting the Central Otago Region over the summer period.  Dylan and myself visited over 40 different businesses from across the district to have their voices shine on screen.  It was a great way to show off the region while also promoting the various things that Central Otago offers.

I had never shot anything like this before but I was really keen to bring Dylan's vision to life.  Dylan directed the interviewees and I shot most of the content on a gimbal to give some more dynamic movement within the shots.  A wireless microphone was used for the audio and I also used a drone to create some variation and to show of the more landscape aspect of the area.  It was a really great couple weeks shooting and I also really enjoyed seeing the 8 videos coming together in post production.

I'm humbled to be able to have this kind of work with Tourism Central Otago and really love the diversity involved on a day to day basis.  It's awesome to play a small part in telling the Central Otago story and I hope to continue this in years to come!
